\n\nPass the App
\n\n[IMG[passtheapp.jpg]]\n\n
\n

\n
Innovations are happening rapidly in the e-commerce and payment processing space (see Square, Paypal etc.) but the tech that enables the simple act of giving to support a non-profit cause (like Mozilla!) is lagging and lacking. Innovation seems to take forever to trickle down to NGOs.
\n\nBut with AppMaker and a few amazing #Mozfest folks it doesn’t have to be this way.\n\n
A group of coders, app developers, payment processors and nonprofit fundraisers (including @spirals from UNICEF UK, @adamlofting of WWF, and @valiant of Mozilla) gathered at MozFest to find a dead-simple way for a person to quickly chip in a few dollars, pounds, yen or euros to their favorite charities.
\n\n
At the session, “From Pass the Hat to Pass the App: Building an On-site Donation Mobile App,” the group brainstormed new ways to use AppMaker to reduce barriers between givers and the charities they care about.
\n\nFrom the pile of ideas, one cohesive concept emerged: a prototype of an app to let people collect donations with their phone.\n\n
With a solid idea, group immediately started coding. The minimum viable product (MVP) was an ask screen, a pay screen and a thank you screen. To top things off, they also came up with a badge for donating.
\n\n
What’s so exciting about this innovation is that any non-profit can use it to build their own custom donations app.
\n\n
Pass the App will demo on Sunday night at #MozFest – Try it yourself! Install Pass The App here.
\n\n
\n\n\n\n[[Nice! Like the NYPD or the Girl Scouts?" or if you're not me, you look around for clues about the flurry of activity going on up here.\n\nYou discover that this track is all about how to challenge the conventional system of recognizing skills and learning.\n\nOn the Open Badges floor, you explore a new system for credentialing and accreditation that makes it possible for learners everywhere to get recognition for lifelong learning of all kinds through digital badges. Learners can collect and share those badges across the Web for real results like jobs. Earn badges at MozFest, engage in creating learning pathways and future gaze with us to imagine the possibilities.\n\nYou can even make your own badges!
